POSTED: 20 June 2024UPDATED: 17 September 2024
Web-based lecture material will become available as the course
progresses. It is not advisable to come to class unprepared. Ideally, you have at least visited the lecture notes before coming to class. You should have downloaded the thumbnail handout notes posted near the top of each lecture notes page. These thumbnail handouts will help you record short notes during class. There will not be enough time during class to write down every relevant spoken word! Instead, please come to class and listen, enjoy and participate in the polls and discussions. After class, please review the lecture notes (again) and podcasts. UCSD strongly encourages instructors to make an effort to "flip" the classroom. Students learn the basic concepts at home to give more interactive and discussion time in the classroom. A flipped classroom means that students will learn some of the material AT HOME so that we will have more time to react and discuss recent natural disasters. To accommodate recent events in the classroom, some essential material (that is test material) will be covered in short videos. These videos are available through the class website (see lecture schedule, last column)!
Fall Quarter 2024: Students should have access to the ebook version for a trial period. However, students must opt out if they do not want to purchase the book. Instructors have no control over timing, purchase conditions and price. |
